Those living along Dunkley Avenue or who have to drive along it in South Haven will be getting some relief fairly soon. The City Council this week was given four options to deal with the flooding issue due to high water levels in Lake Michigan and the Black River, the most expensive costing more than $400,000. The City Council will go with a $20,000 remedy according to City Manager Brian Dissette.

“Ultimately the City Council selected option two and instructed staff to move forward with working with Edgewater (Resources) as design consultant,” says Dissette. “It will involve the use of sandbags, storm sewer plugs, and periodic pumping to try to draw down the storm water.” He says work will begin within the next few weeks.

Residents commented about the stagnant water in the area having a strong odor and sludge build up as well, and were thankful that the city will address the problem.
