The Berrien County Health Department is once again offering Flu Shot Fridays starting this week. Spokesperson Gillian Conrad tells WSJM News everyone is welcome to stop by and get vaccinated for the coming flu season.

“Instad of doing one day where there is a massive flu clinic, every single Friday we’ve got walk-in appointments,” Conrad said.

Conrad says there’s usually no cost thanks to insurance. Also, the health department won’t turn anyone away due to an inability to pay. Conrad says getting the flu shot is the single best thing you can do to avoid an illness that can get serious. You’re not just protecting yourself when you get the vaccine.

“It’s helping to protect your grandma, your baby niece, your neighbor who’s undergoing cancer treatments, all of those people in your life who might fall into one of those high risk categories where the flu can hit them extra hard.”

Conrad says it’s recommended everyone older than six months get the flu shot. The time to get it is from early October onward, but the earlier the better. Conrad says you can stop by on a Flu Shot Friday or see your doctor. Anyone with questions can call the Berrien County Health Department.
