Lawmaker Talks Health And Human Services Budget

With Governor Gretchen Whitmer having used line item vetoes to do away with several appropriations in the Republican passed state budget, lawmakers are now reviewing what’s next. State Representative Mary Whiteford tells us her committee put together the budget for the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services. She says she tried to focus on making sure money went to helping people and not administration.

“There were some ways that I was able to be more creative by ensuring that funds get to children, to our foster children, children who are traumatized, and making sure that behavioral health workers are being reimbursed properly.”

Whiteford says the governor signed her committee’s health and human services budget, and now she’s reviewing what the governor vetoed. She says she’ll work on those issues moving forward.
