This is Fire Prevention Month, and 1,000 free smoke detectors are being given away in Berrien County. Servpro of Berrien County’s Bob Rogers tells WSJM News the company has distributed smoke detectors to local fire departments for about 14 years now.

“We do so much fire work for victims of fire and smoke damage around the county that we feel a responsibility to give back to the community,” Roger said. “As part of that, we partner up with Home Depot and buy 1,000 smoke alarms every year, and we donate those to the fire departments around the county.”

Rogers says they’ve given out around 10,000 smoke detectors over the years. To get one, contact your local municipality. For example, in St. Joseph Township, they keep the smoke alarms right there in the township office. Often, your fire department will even help you install one.
