Michigan’s Unemployment Insurance Agency has announced a new partnership with job searching social network LinkedIn to help clients find new employment. Unemployment Insurance Agency Deputy Director Kimberly Berry tells WSJM News Michigan is part of a three-state pilot being launched by LinkedIn to have special portals for those who are unemployed and receiving benefits.

“They will be able to search for a job, apply for jobs, among other things,” Berry said. “We’ll be emailing the claimants letting them know what’s going on so they’ll have access to the portal.”

Berry says the portal can help the Unemployment Insurance Agency keep track of the jobs clients are applying for, making reporting easier. More than 200,000 Michiganders apply for unemployment each year, and Berry says they have to show they’re actively looking for work to remain eligible. It will be voluntary for the clients to sign up for the LinkedIn portal, which can be found at LinkedIn.com/Unemployment.
