Grants totaling nearly $1.6 million have been announced for the specialty courts in Van Buren County. The county court administrator says the money comes in three grants. First, a State Court Administrative Office grant of $716,000 for the Van Buren County Drug Treatment Court, the Family Reunification Court, the Swift and Sure Sanctions Probation Program, the Adult and Family Recovery Courts, and the Sobriety Court. Second is a $750,000 enhancement grant from the Office of Justice Programs for the Adult Recovery Court. Lastly, the State Community Corrections Board has awarded the Van Buren Office of Community Corrections $128,000 to support pretrial supervisions. Meanwhile, the Berrien County Trial Court also announced this week it’s received a $433,000 grant for its specialty courts through the State Court Administrator’s Office. Those specialty court programs in both counties aim to reduce the rate of re-offences by giving offenders special attention and help.
