Michigan lawmakers and Governor Gretchen Whitmer are expected to approve some spending bills this week. That’s after the governor line item vetoed nearly $1 billion in funding included in the budget approved by the Legislature earlier this year. State Senator Kim LaSata tells WSJM News lawmakers last week restored funding for the Jobs for Michigan’s Graduates program, and also for student loans for those enrolled in private universities. That’s not all.

“Our sheriffs now have their secondary road patrol back, and that helps to protect all of us,” LaSata said. “I could go on. Some really great things we are seeing back in the budget.”

LaSata says the governor will sign the supplemental budget bills.

“She did negotiate on these things. She was at the table. These are things that were agreed upon.”

LaSata told us last Friday the House and Senate would review each other’s budget bills this week. She says less time-sensitive items not included in last week’s negotiations will be dealt with later.
