Discussions will continue between the city of St. Joseph and those who live near and along the shoreline whose properties and houses are threatened by the erosion from Lake Michigan. City Manager John Hodgson and others met with more than 20 residents over the weekend

“I don’t think we’re in a position tonight to ask the city commission to look at an agreement,” said Hodgson. “These folks haven’t had that long to look at the agreement and see what other thoughts they may have. It may be different for different properties, as there are folks in different situations.”

Hodgson said some are ready right now to sign contracts to put in whatever protection they can with rocks or walls, while others no longer have enough frontage with the public access in front of their properties being nearly washed out. After the meeting, he told WSJM News it’s likely the city commission will hold a special meeting before the end of the month to finalize how the city and the property owners will move forward.
