A Sunday morning shooting at the Blossom Acres housing project in Benton Township and a rollover crash in St. Joseph near the courthouse are believed to be connected. St. Joseph Public Safety Director Steve Neubecker says four people were in the vehicle that rolled around 6:30 a.m. at Port and Wayne streets, with two people being ejected from the car. One died at the scene, and the other three were taken to Spectrum Health Lakeland for non-life-threatening injuries. The man who was dead at the scene of the crash had been shot, and police are working to officially determine if he had been a shooting victim at the housing project in Benton Township and if the crash happened as people were trying to rush him to the hospital.
