More than 10,000 pounds of food was collected this year through the Michigan Secretary of State’s Harvest Gathering food drive. Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson says the long-running program is just one way Michigan residents come together to fight hunger. The Sparta branch office of the Secretary of State ranked first in food collection, bringing in more than 7,000 pounds of donations. The Hastings office collected 541 pounds of food, and the Petoskey office collected 127 pounds. Harvest Gathering collection boxes were placed in Secretary of State offices and some other state office buildings throughout the fall food drive. The Harvest Gathering started in 1999. The drive this year also resulted in the collection of more than $1,600.
