Lake Michigan has claimed a Muskegon County home. Erosion from high waves, the high water level, and several storms churning up the lake in recent months ate away enough of the bluff under the cottage in White River Township that the home collapsed and fell to the shore around 11 p.m. Tuesday. The owner will have to pay for the cleanup and says it is her vacation cottage and it had been in the family for generations. When it was built, she says Lake Michigan couldn’t even be seen through the trees between the house and the bluff, which has since been completely washed away. No one was at the home when it happened. Muskegon County officials fear at least one other neighboring house could be falling in very soon.
