The reconstruction project on Center Street in downtown South Haven has been able to continue this week thanks to cooperative weather. South Haven Downtown Development Authority Director Deb Davidson tells WSJM News the project normally would be sitting dormant right now.

“With temperatures spiking to the higher 30s, 40s, we were able to get the concrete poured this week,” Davidson said.

Davidson says insulating material has been placed over the concrete to protect it as it sets. She says the Center Street reconstruction project involves not just paving the street, but also work on water lines, storm water and sewage lines, and electrical upgrades. When the project is done this May, the affected area will also have new landscaping. Davidson says a goal is to eventually have sculptures and a gathering area. The project’s cost is $3 million.
