Legislation Would Require Women To Be Notified Of Abortion Pill Reversal

State Representative Beth Griffin of Mattawan has introduced legislation that would require women to be notified of a way to reverse the effects of what is commonly known as the abortion pill when they have taken one. Griffin says abortion pill reversal, or APR, uses progesterone to reverse the effects of the abortion pill, but patients are never informed of the option.

“It’s good information to share, and it is not a new treatment,” Griffin said. “It’ a simple progesterone, either an injection or a pill, that you give to the woman essentially to hold on to the pregnancy.”

Griffin says informed “consent is the bedrock of medical ethics,” adding that the reversal has a 48 to 64% chance of working. She says it makes sense for those who say a woman has the right to choose what to do with her own body to support the idea of making them aware of all options.
