Rep. Wendzel, Senator Nesbitt Give Reaction To State Of The State

Lawmakers are reacting to Governor Whitmer’s second State of the State address. Representative Pauline Wendzel bristled at the words used in the governor’s healthcare comments in which she said it’s time to ask women what they want, specifically with their reproductive care. The Watervliet Republican spun that off in another direction in her comments to WSJM News.

“I’d like Michiganders to have better roads, and good schools and safe drinking water just like her, but without massive tax hikes and sending the state further into debt and playing politics with people’s lives,” said Wendzel, adding “so that’s what this woman wants.”

Wendzel said there were things in the speech she can get behind, as did Republican Senator Aric Nesbitt of Lawton. He liked the focus on education.

“My hope is we can tackle career and technical education this year. I appreciated her compliments on the auto no-fault reform that we passed last year,” said Nesbitt. “But it was disappointing that she took quite a negative tone on not wanting to work together in terms of the Legislature and the governor.”

Both weren’t pleased with the idea of issuing bonds to pay for road repairs. Wendzel noted the speech was very short on details regarding that plan.
