The Greater South Haven Area Community Foundation has passed the $10,000 mark in its effort to raise funds for the new splash pad being constructed near South Beach in South Haven. Foundation board member Roger Beglin tells WSJM News the group has a fundraising goal of $25,000 that it will then match, bringing its total contribution to the splash pad up to $50,000. Beglin says the Greater South Haven Area Community Foundation supports the splash pad project because of what it will mean to young people.

“As you know, with the water levels up in the lake and less and less beach space available, and as the waves get high and it gets dangerous and more risky for younger children to be out there, we thought the city’s idea to develop a splash pad is a great way to provide a safer alternative when the lake is rough,” Beglin said.

The $612,000 splash pad will be similar to the Whirlpool Centennial Fountain in St. Joseph when finished. Beglin says the fundraising effort of the Greater South Haven Area Community Foundation will continue until the $25,000 goal is reached. Anyone who wants to contribute can go to SouthHavenCF.org. It’s expected the splash pad project will be completed in the spring.
