Congressman Fred Upton is among 14 members of the U.S. House Problem Solvers caucus who met with Vice President Mike Pence on Tuesday to get a coronavirus briefing. Upton tells WSJM News Coronavirus Response Coordinator Dr. Debbie Birx was on hand to answer questions.

“For me, I raised a number of questions trying to make sure that our local public health authorities will have the testing equipment they need, number one,” Upton said. “Number two, we talked a little bit about the supply train for businesses with products that are being manufactured overseas.”

Upton says Pence assured those in attendance there are regular briefings taking place as cornovirus spreads and concerns grow. He is expecting action in Congress soon.

“I think you’ll see a strong bipartisan vote before we get to the end of the week coming out of the House.”

Upton says the funding bill will likely be between $8 billion and $9 billion. He adds work is underway on a vaccine for the illness, which could possibly be developed by the end of the year.
