Congressman Fred Upton is urging everyone to get the flu vaccine. He tells WSJM News it won’t help you avoid the coronavirus…

“But it may prevent you from getting the real flu, which has already killed 14,000 Americans this flu season,” Upton said. “If it keeps you from getting that and perhaps sending you to the hospital, we need to have that space reserved for people who are more serious ill, knowing that coronavirus is here now in this country.”

Upton spoke on the U.S. House floor Wednesday to urge approval of a nearly $8 billion spending bill to respond to the coronavirus. He noted his Problem Solvers caucus is committed.

“Many of us that last couple of weeks have met with the HHS secretary, the CDC, FDA, NIH, as well as with our health leaders in our states.”

Upton met with Vice President Mike Pence to talk about response to the illness this week. He tells everyone to avoid shaking hands and to wash their hands frequently.
