The coronavirus continues to spread across the country, and Lieutenant Governor Garlin Gilchrist says it’s just a matter of time before the virus arrives in Michigan. Gilchrist says even though there are no confirmed cases in the state so far, officials are preparing for a potential outbreak.

“We’ve got statewide plans for quarantining, and that’s part of the big federal request we made, $56 million of that was for the infrastructure to be able to set up quarantines,” said Gilchrist. “We will be monitoring the situation and will set that up wherever we need to.”

Gilchrist is urging Michiganders to begin creating new habits, such as washing their hands frequently and learning to do the elbow bump to replace shaking hands.
