Overall, the Secretary of State’s office is pleased with how smoothly the primary election went on Tuesday. Spokesman Jake Rollow said the election attracted a lot of young voters, and voter turnout was high.

“The presidential primary went smoothly. In large part, that was due to the high quality and intense work by local clerks and their teams across the state,” Rollow said. “The numbers we saw were comparable to the 2016 general election. That said, the strain on the system was apparent, especially in the locations where same-day registrations were high and the lines stretched for hours.”

Rollow says that a majority of those that registered in the 14 days leading up to the election were 29 and younger.
