Interfaith Action of Southwest Michigan is planning a series of presentations on refugees for this month. The group, which represents churches and other faith-based organizations around the area, says angles to be addressed include who refugees are, why refugees are protected, and how the U.S. screens refugees. Interfaith Action Director Sid Mohn tells WSJM News attacks on refugee resettlement have resulted in the U.S. no longer being the leader when it comes to welcoming those fleeing danger.

“We recognized that there is likely a lack of education among elected members of the Berrien County Board of Commissioners as well as other county boards of commissioners within our area of focus,” Mohn said.

Mohn says his group has a “faith-grounded commitment in terms of justice for the immigrant” and welcoming the foreigner. Three discussions are planned for this month, all to be held at the Lincoln Township Public Library in Stevensville. The first event was March 12. The next two will be March 19 and 23, both starting at 6 p.m.
