All gatherings of more than 250 people have been banned through April 5 by Governor Gretchen Whitmer. On Sunday, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services’ Robert Gordon gave an example for the ban.

“In the state of Massachusetts, one conference attended by individuals from other countries has led to more than three-quarters of the known cases in Massachusetts,” said Gordon.

Attorney General Dana Nessel says this is about protecting public health over everything else.

“The life that you save could be your own, or it could be the life of someone you love,” said Nessel.

Michigan Chief Medical Officer Dr. Joneigh Khaldun says “Prohibiting large assemblages is the smart thing to do to mitigate the spread of COVID-19,” adding it’s “crucial that everyone in Michigan follow these orders and make smart choices that will slow the spread of the virus, including practicing good hygiene and social distancing.”
