Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s stay-at-home order has led to a virtual shutdown of the state’s tourism industry. Dave Lorenz with Pure Michigan says the impact has been devastating.

“It’s certainly damaging all the businesses that connect with consumers, and of course that’s the travel industry,” says Lorenz. “So we’re in pretty bad shape. I’m thankful for both the federal and the state various resources that are coming to the aid of all these businesses, because the travel industry is mostly made up of small businesses.”

Michigan is now offering a way to enjoy some of the state’s most popular locations with live cameras and three-dimensional tours. You’ll find them at michigan.org. The governor struck the funding for the Pure Michigan ad campaign from a supplemental budget bill this week with the blessing of legislative leaders in order to put all of the resources in those bills toward fighting the coronavirus pandemic.
