Protest Of Governor’s Stay Home Order Held In Lansing

Hundreds of cars descended on Lansing Wednesday for a protest of Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s extended stay home order. Organizers of the demonstration, dubbed Operation Gridlock, stressed everyone needed to stay in their cars. Brenda Esman of Kalamazoo said things have gone too far.

“It’s time for our state to be opened up,” Esman said. “We’re tired of not being able to buy the things that we need, go to the hairdresser, get our hair done. It’s time to open up. The sick are being taken care of. If you’re sick, stay home in your house. The ones can work need to work.”

Governor Whitmer said Tuesday she won’t stop anyone from expressing their views, but the restrictions are needed to protect people from COVID-19. Health officials warn that opening the U.S. too early could lead to a new spike in COVID-19 cases.
