When can Michiganders expect to see the state’s economy begin to reopen amid the COVID-19 outbreak? Appearing on national television Friday morning, Governor Whitmer hopes that by May 1st, restrictions can be eased.

“We are looking very carefully at making sure that each decision we make is supported by the science, by the facts, and in the best interest of the health of people,” Whitmer said. “That’s ultimately what matters to our ability to ramp up our economy again and avoid a second wave, which would be devastating.”

Whitmer was on ABC’S Good Morning America, saying it’s “better for people to be six feet apart right now than six feet under. That is the whole point of this. We’ve got to save lives because every life matters.”

Michigan has lost 2,093 people to COVID-19 as of Thursday afternoon.
