Governor Calls On Lawmakers To Ban Guns In State Capitol

Governor Gretchen Whitmer says guns shouldn’t be allowed in the Michigan Capitol. However, it’s up to the Capitol Commission or the Legislature to act on the matter. Whitmer says lawmakers shouldn’t feel intimidated while doing their job.

“When we’ve got legislators who are there being the voice of tens of thousands of people they represent wearing bulletproof vests because they’re afraid, it means that our democracy is undermined, and that’s precisely why I think this action is merited.”

Protest signs are currently banned from the Capitol and guns are not allowed in other state government buildings. Another protest against the governor’s orders during the outbreak is planned for Thursday.
