The Labor Day Bridge Walk over the Mackinac Bridge has been canceled this year because of the coronavirus pandemic. Bridge Authority executive director Kim Nowack says it’s unprecedented.

“This is the first time ever, and the walk has been going since 1958. It has a long run, and this is the first time we’ve canceled ahead of time,” said Nowack.

Nowack says they had to cancel because Governor Whitmer’s plan does not allow for a crowd of 30,000 people until we are in the post pandemic phase when there’s a vaccine available and proven therapies to treat COVID-19. She says they didn’t think they’d be there by September.
