Outgoing Berrien County Parks Director Brian Bailey has been honored by the Berrien County Board of Commissioners. Bailey retires this week, and during a Thursday meeting, the county board approved a resolution thanking him for his service and commending the difference he has made. Commissioner Bill Chickering said during Bailey’s time as parks director, the county system has been greatly improved.

“The Berrien County parks system has been built into one of our best assets and one of the state of Michigan’s best assets for tourism and for our own residents,” Chickering said. “Brian’s had great vision in terms of moving our parks forward, growing our parks.”

The board’s resolution notes Bailey was in charge as Galien River County Park and Paw Paw River County Park were first opened, he’s worked to grow Love Creek County Park while making a variety of improvements to others. Board Chair Mac Elliott said Bailey even played a role in the acquisition of Silver Beach County Park in the early 90s.
