The Michigan Department of Natural Resources says all state parks will be open, but the campgrounds will remain closed, and Governor Whitmer confirmed Friday afternoon that private campgrounds are also not yet allowed to reopen.

“We know that people being outside is a good thing, but if you can’t stay away from one another and you’re using the same facilities, that’s a dangerous thing with COVID-19,” said Whitmer. “So, it’s our expectations that campgrounds are not open.”

There have been a number of businesses, including a drive-in movie theater in Coldwater, that have been making plans to reopen without yet being allowed to do so by the state. In Friday’s briefing, Whitmer was asked about how strict the state will be in cracking down, but didn’t give a definitive answer other than to say the vast majority of businesses owners in the state are following the executive orders and staying closed.
