As protests continue across the country and here in Michigan, “the fight will not be won on the streets.” That’s the message to young people from Cle Jackson, president of the Greater Grand Rapids NAACP.

“It’s won in the halls of city hall and in the halls of our county governments in the state of Michigan and across this country,” Jackson said. “It’s won in the halls of Capitol Hill by changing policies, systemic policy. It’s won at the ballot box That’s where the fight is won.”

Jackson says the killing of George Floyd by an officer in Minneapolis strengthens the call from the Greater Grand Rapids NAACP for an independent body be responsible for investigating the actions of local police departments. The independent body would have subpoena powers.
