Michigan is reporting 284 additional cases of COVID-19 for Friday. The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services says that brings the state’s total to 58,525 since the start of the pandemic. There are 20 additional deaths to report around the state for Friday, making that total 5,615. Michigan Medical Executive Joneigh Khaldun says this is encouraging.

“We are still, as the governor mentioned, on an encouraging trajectory across the state, and while there are regional differences, we are seeing continued general rates of decline in cases and deaths,” Khaldun said.

The state updated its coronavirus website on Friday.

“Providing more information of both confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19, total antibody tests and diagnostic tests by county, and we’re making the information easier to visualize.”

Khaldun said an encouraging number is the percentage of tests that come back positive, which is about 5% as of Friday. She also noted the state is doing an average of 15,000 tests per day with a goal to make that 30,000 next.
