The state of Michigan has filed another lawsuit against the owner of two Midland County dams that collapsed and caused major flooding last month. Attorney General Dana Nessel says Boyce Hydro should pay civil fines and cleanup damage caused by the failure of the Edenville and Sanford dams.

“We know the owners of the dam with their long history of neglect are responsible for the dam’s failure, and we can already see the devastating results of their inaction,” Nessel said. “This order requiring the dam owners to pay to remediate the harm they’ve caused and to take action to ensure it never happens again.”

Governor Gretchen Whitmer will request a federal disaster declaration for the Midland area where flooding destroyed 150 houses. It caused more than $200 million in damage.
