State Representative Beth Griffin of Mattawan is among the Republican lawmakers slamming the administration of Governor Gretchen Whitmer over its nursing home policies during the COVID-19 pandemic. Griffin tells WSJM News the governor has put seniors at risk.

“I was just horrified to start hearing some of the stories coming out of the nursing homes, both from families and from seniors who are there,” Griffin said. “As we know, it’s a direct result of the governor’s decision and executive order to send COVID positive patients to the nursing homes to recuperate.”

Griffin says if there’s anywhere COVID-19 patients should not be sent, it’s to nursing homes where the residents are already at risk.

“When the governor decides to go it alone, she bears the blame, and state lawmakers are shining a light on this.”

The Michigan House Appropriations Subcommittee on Health and Human Services this week discussed legislation to prevent COVID patients from being placed in nursing homes. Governor Whitmer has said she’s open to changing the policy.
