The state Joint Select Committee on the COVID-19 pandemic is discussing efforts to reopen Michigan’s economy. Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs Director Orlene Hawks was asked about working with various industries in working groups to get ready to reopen businesses. State Representative Matt Hall says some businesses expressed frustration it took so long to reopen.

“I know that there were even legislators that were part of those work groups as well, or had offices that are part of those work groups,” Hawks said. “While I feel the frustration, we all want to get back to some normalcy, but there are some mitigating factors we have to take into consideration that are beyond our control.”

Hawks says the governor decided when various sectors of the economy would reopen.
