With the COVID-19 pandemic limiting large gatherings, the St. Joseph Municipal Band has had to adjust so it can still perform for the community this summer. St. Joseph Public Works Deputy Director Greg Grothous tells WSJM News the band set up a YouTube page and did virtual concerts for both Mother’s Day and Memorial Day.

“We have some good feedback,” Grothous said. “We just created the YouTube page just this year in response to the COVID-19 situation and not being able to get the band together. We started the YouTube page, starting posting some concerts there, and very quickly we had well over 100 subscribers.”

Grothous says live shows at the Howard Band Shell are unlikely this summer because the band can’t social distance and there would be too many people. The band will post its third virtual concert this weekend for Father’s Day. The concert will consist of the band performing “Raiders of the Lost Ark,” recorded in a previous season, as well as new virtual performances of “Papa Can You Hear Me?” along with a vocal solo by Brinden Brown and “Oh My Papa” a flute solo by Wendy Willis. The show will go live on Sunday at noon. You can find the St. Joseph Municipal Band’s YouTube page right here.
