Postponed and not cancelled. That’s what leaders at the Berrien County Youth Fair are saying about the event for this year. Due to COVID-19 and uncertainty about what the situation and rules will be in August, the fair announced this year it’s being moved to August of 2021. Berrien County Youth Fair Manager Karen Klug tells WSJM News the decision came after much deliberation.

“Over the last three months we’ve had many hours of meetings, all done virtually until very recently, and it was just a discussion that we did not take lightly, and it was a really tough decision,” Klug said.

Due to this being the 75th year for the Berrien County Youth Fair, Klug says they’re calling this a postponement and not a cancelation. That’s so the fair can have its 75th anniversary celebration next year. They’re still planning to let the kids show off their animals this year, though. Klug says the youths should wait for further instructions.

“We have our committees working on it, and they’ll be turning back into the board in a couple weeks. Then we’ll get it all put out. We still want [the young people] to go ahead and register using numbers that we have out online and in our exhibitor handbook.”

Slated for August 15 through August 23, the fair says the “Berrien County Showcase – Where Youth are Essential” will allow exhibits from the county’s youth in a different format with no rides or vendors. As far as Klug knows, this is the first year the Berrien County Youth Fair had to be canceled or postponed.
