Voters who requested absentee ballots can expect to receive them soon, as the Michigan Secretary of State’s office says clerks began mailing them on Thursday. Those absentee ballots are for the August 4 primary elections. Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson says to increase safety during the pandemic, the Michigan Bureau of Elections is providing local voting jurisdictions with personal protective equipment, ballot drop boxes, and matching grants to buy additional equipment. Benson says the absentee ballots went out this week to comply with the constitutional amendment passed by voters in 2018 that requires ballot mailing begin no later than 40 days prior to elections. Anyone who has not registered to vote absentee but wants to can go to Michigan.gov/Vote.
