Congressman Fred Upton has signed on to a letter asking Governor Gretchen Whitmer to end a policy that has COVID-19 patients placed in nursing homes to recover. The letter is from 10th District Congressman Paul Mitchell. Upton says it’s important Congress get all the information it can on the state’s policy.

“We’re just trying to ask some simple questions, and reflect as to maybe we had a large number of unneeded deaths,” Upton said. “I don’t know. We need the answers to the questions before we can draw that conclusion.”

Other Republican members of Congress from Michigan also signed the letter. It calls the policy “misguided and dangerous,” and tells the governor, “Your resistance to oversight on this matter is also troubling.” Upton says policies putting COVID patients in nursing homes will likely be the topic of some hearings in Washington, noting it’s not just Michigan that would be looked at.
