Coaches from Michigan State University and the University of Michigan have joined Governor Gretchen Whitmer in her pleas for people to mask up. During Whitmer’s Wednesday COVID update, the governor was joined by MSU Basketball Coach Tom Izzo, who said not enough people are masking up.

“What we’ve been through and all of the opportunities that have come, we’ve got to make better decisions than we have made,” Izzo said.

A video featuring several Michigan college coaches was played during the governor’s address with the slogan “Mask Up Michigan.” U of M Women’s Basketball Coach Kim Arico joined the call.

“We would love for our universities to open,” Arico said. “We would love to play those rivalry games that you talked about, but we can’t do that without all of you. We can’t do that without everyone in our state wearing our masks and protecting each other and doing it for the state of Michigan.”

The coaches said if we want there to be school and school sports in Michigan this fall, everyone’s got to be responsible.
