The Michigan Secretary of State says absentee ballot numbers continue to grow as the state’s August 4 primary elections draw near. More than 1.6 million absentee ballots have been sent out to voters who requested them. Of those, more than 300,000 have already been returned. That’s more than double the number of absentee ballots in the 2016 primary. Since then, Michigan voters altered the state constitution to allow voting by absentee without providing a reason. That coupled with the pandemic has made this a record year for absentee voting. Less than a week remains for those who wish to vote absentee to register to do so. You can sign up at Michigan.gov/Vote.
