Michigan is reporting 489 additional cases of COVID-19 for Monday. The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services says the state has had 74,152 cases of the illness since the start of the pandemic. It reported seven additional deaths for Monday, bringing that total to 6,126. Michigan Chief Medical Executive Dr. Joneigh Khaldun says the positivity rate of about 4% has nearly doubled in the past month.

“This is an indicators that there is ongoing spread of the disease, and we’re not simply seeing more cases just because we are doing increased testing,” Khaldun said.

As of Friday, the state said there have been more than 55,000 recoveries from COVID-19. Berrien County has had 958 cases of coronavirus and 61 deaths since the start of the pandemic. Cass County has had 210 cases and seven deaths. Van Buren County has had 277 cases and eight deaths.
