Lakeshore Public Schools Superintendent Phil Freeman says it’s been all-clear at the district when it comes to additional COVID-19 cases among football players. One player tested positive a day or two after attending a workout on July 10. Freeman tells WSJM News he was notified by the Berrien County Health Department, which then investigated.

“When somebody tests positive, they go back 48 hours from the onset of the symptoms, and they look at what possible contacts they may have had in that 48 hours,” Freeman said.

The department looked at everything Lakeshore has been doing to keep the players safe.

“Cohorting our students, keeping them six feet apart from each other, wearing masks when that can’t happen. The health department determines that the protocols that we were using made the opportunity for any type of transmission vry minimal.”

Freeman says there have been no further cases of the illness among players. Freeman says as to whether there is a football season this year, they’re waiting to hear what the state says.
