The United Way of Southwest Michigan is teaming up with other United Way organizations from around the state for a campaign to tell the story about what they’ve been doing to help their communities during the COVID-19 pandemic. United Way of Southwest Michigan President Anna Murphy tells WSJM News “United We Will” shares 19 response stories.

“It really helps life the work of all United Ways throughout our state,” Murphy said.

Murphy says here in southwest Michigan, the United Way initially helped people take care of immediate needs, like food. It also connected them with personal protective equipment. Moving forward, the need is more long-term.

“Payments for electric or rent or things like that. There’s been other programs out to support some of those items, but not everyone qualified for them.”

That’s where the United Way comes in. Murphy says as the United Way gets into its fundraising season, the need is greater than ever. You can learn more about the United Way of Southwest Michigan’s COVID story, and the COVID stories of other United Way groups, at UnitedWeWillMI.org.
