There has been a rumor going around on social media regarding the funding of Michigan State Police. It started going around Wednesday night as Michigan lawmakers were approving a supplemental budget bill to close out the fiscal year. Republican state Representative Beth Griffin would like to clear it up.

“There was some talk about defunding the Michigan State Police,” Griffin said. “That is not true. If you see the public disclosures of the dollars in each of the budgets, it is public, everybody can see it. Multiple departments received what looked like cuts, but they’re being back-filled with federal CARES dollars.”

Griffin says money taken out of the state police budget was put back using CARES money. There were a lot of posts on Twitter and Facebook Wednesday and Thursday about the governor defunding state police. Griffin says it’s simply not true.
