The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services has announced expanded food benefits made available to eligible Michigan residents when the pandemic started will continue through all of August. Spokesperson Bob Wheaton tells WSJM News the agency has eliminated income limits for those already receiving SNAP benefits.
“There is additional amounts of food assistance every month for families that qualify for food assistance, and what we’ve done is made available to people the maximum monthly amount of food assistance allowable for somebody of their household size,” Wheaton said.
In other words, once you qualify for food assistance, it doesn’t matter what your income is and you get the maximum. For a family of four, the maximum available is $646 per month, and for an individual, it’s $194. Wheaton says 1.5 million Michiganders receive food assistance, and that has risen substantially since the pandemic started. The extended extra benefits will be applied automatically to Bridge Cards.
