They’re the first and very likely not the last to call off the football season this year. Lake Michigan Catholic athletic director Neil Carter says it was one of the hardest decisions they’ve ever had to make.

“It’s a decision we really didn’t want to make, but we thought it was in our best interests so we can get our kids coming to the classroom and that’s the direction we decided to go,” Carter tells WSJM’s Phil McDonald.

He added if the Michigan High School Athletic Association says they want fall sports in the spring, LMC is open to it.

“If there’s a way we can make this happen for our athletes, absolutely we would revisit that,” says Carter.

The football season had been set to start on August 28.
