Three southwest Michigan communities are among 23 statewide receiving grants for infrastructure work next year through the Community Service Infrastructure Fund program. Run by the Michigan Department of Transportation, the program provides matching grants to communities of less than 10,000 for road work. MDOT says Watervliet, Hartford, and Lawton are among the grant recipients announced this week. The city of Watervliet is getting $117,000 for improvements to Elk Street next year. Hartford is getting $204,000 for improvements to Wendell Avenue, and Lawton is getting $75,000 for work on Oak Road. All of the grants are 50% matches, meaning the local communities will also contribute 50% of the funding needed.
