A St. Joseph bar has lost its ability to have loud music on the weekend after 10 pm. Two weeks ago, the St. Joseph City Commission voted to allow that for the Sandbar, over by the high school. But Monday night, Mayor Mike Garey said owner Tom Jennings was abusing the authority.

“Bluntly, Tom did not keep his word,” Garey said. “I went over there the next day. There’s a small tent set up in the back, and he has seating for maybe 80 people. He had totally abused the permission that we gave him. I’m quite upset with Tom. I think he really threw us under the bus.”

As a result, the City Commission revoked their permission for the noise ordinance waiver. Commissioners Peggy Getty and Laura Goos added Garey’s complaints about the noise from a mile away were not the only ones received by the city.
