It’s been a busy time in Benton Harbor for Michigan State Police. The agency assigned six troopers and a sergeant to bolster police patrols in the city last week in response to a request for aid from the Benton Harbor Department of Public Safety. During that time, MSP says four handguns were seized during traffic stops in which the vehicle occupants had outstanding warrants and were taken into custody. They also say the past week has resulted in arrests for possession of cocaine, resisting and obstructing an officer, and carrying a concealed weapon, in addition to a variety of warrant arrests. The agency also assisted the Benton Township Police Department with investigating an illegal gambling operation, resulting in the seizure of two handguns, crack, and $1,700 in cash. Four arrests were made there. State police will continue their additional enforcement in Benton Harbor through September 18 as part of the state’s Secure Cities Partnership.
