The Berrien RESA Board of Education has voted to waive more than $906,000 in service fees to Berrien County school districts to help them during the COVID-19 crisis. The two years of fee waivers include product fees for the Power School Student Information System, fees for the Skyward business system, and charge backs for fifth year Early and Middle College Mentor and consultant programs. This will reduce the RESA fund balance to $453,000 for both this school year and the next school year. The RESA Board has also created a policy to send excess special education funds back to public school districts to reimburse a portion of their special ed costs from last year. RESA Superintendent Eric Hoppstock says with a yet to be determined school aid budget and the increasing costs of COVID-19 response, schools are trying to meet expectations with fewer resources. He says RESA wants to help.
