State Representative Beth Griffin has introduced legislation intended to protect police officers and their families. She announced it in Lansing Friday, saying the bills would make a felony to dox a police officer or to use doxed information. So what is doxing?

“Doxing means to take someone’s personal information and to give it to someone with the intent to harm them, and unfortunately, in the these times, there are people out there that want to hurt law enforcement and want to hurt their families, and I’m telling you right now that we won’t stand for that,” Griffin said.

Griffin said the legislation would penalize individuals who maliciously post private information about a law enforcement officer on the internet. Griffin talked about the legislation after the annual September 11 commemoration in front of the state Capitol.
